T-Mobile Sets 5G Uplink Speed Record with 550 Mbps Milestone

T-Mobile has achieved a groundbreaking 550 Mbps uplink speed using sub-6 GHz spectrum and 5G Advanced technology. This live demonstration, conducted in Seattle with partners Nokia and MediaTek, marks the first global use of Release 17 UL Tx Switching.

Achieving the 550 Mbps Uplink Milestone

In a live demonstration at a commercial site in Seattle, T-Mobile achieved a record-breaking 550 Mbps uplink speed using sub-6 GHz spectrum. This feat was accomplished through the implementation of 3GPP Release 17 UL Tx Switching, a technology that enhances uplink performance by optimizing the use of UL Carrier Aggregation and UL MIMO across TDD and FDD spectrum.

Collaborative Effort with Nokia and MediaTek

The demonstration was a collaborative effort between T-Mobile, Nokia, and MediaTek. Utilizing 100 MHz of TDD spectrum (n41) and 35 MHz of FDD spectrum (n25), the test employed a MediaTek flagship test device equipped with an integrated M90 modem. This partnership highlights the importance of cross-industry collaboration in advancing 5G technology.
